4th of July Weekend

Chris and I had a wonderful weekend! On the 4th, we got up early for a morning hike at Proud Lake State Rec area. Though it was just a bit chilly, it was a beautiful day for a hike! So many flowers were in bloom, and all the forest critters were out and about!

This ADORABLE little field mouse sat on the trail long enough for me to get a good close shot!

And of course I had to catch a frog or two, and a snake!
After a wonderfully long and refreshing hike, it was time for family and fireworks on the lake!

Sunday, I took Chris on a surprise date to Belle Isle in Detroit. Neither of us had been before. It was a bit rundown and there was litter, but it was still a perfect afternoon for a picnic lunch and a day of exploring. The fountain on the island was magnificent. We checked out the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, the Anna Scripps Whitcome Conservatory, and the Belle Isle Nature Zoo.

The museum was interesting. We saw a lot of neat stuff. The 'nature zoo' was just a nature center, but neat just the same. And the conservatory was, of course, my favorite.

There were beautiful gardens in front, a koi pond in the back, and glorious plants inside!

We finished out the venture with a picnic along the river overlooking the city. It was a perfect day to end a perfect weekend. Hope you all had a happy and safe 4th as well!
