Well, it's been quite an adjustment getting used to Michigan again after spending nine days in a warm tropical paradise. The trip was absolutely A-MAZ-ING! We saw whales and sea turtles nearly every day from shore, our lodging was fantastic everywhere we stayed, and the weather was perfect (after a bit of rain just the first couple of days).
We spent the first couple of days there driving the road to Hana. We stopped at many of the little pull-offs along the way, taking short hikes and checking out the waterfalls. We swam in one of them! There were fantastic little stands along the way where people were selling shell jewelry, coconut candy, and coconut ice-cream! YUMM!
We spent one night in Hana, renting a house across the street from the ocean, before heading back to the other side of the island for the rest of our trip.
We did the bike trip down Mount Haleakala. It was a beautiful ride, starting above the clouds and going all the way down to the beach. Many days we just lounged around on the beaches, and checked out nearby tide pools like the Olivine Pools. This place was really cool! The waves crashed around us while these serene little pools remained calm and still with large fish criuising around in them.We went on a whale watch one day with the Pacific Whale Foundation. There were three male whales all "fighting" for a female who had a calf. The female and calf stayed near the boat while the males circled us, pushing each other and smacking each other in the face with their tails. It was all very exciting, absolutely breathtaking. What magnificent creatures! We also spent a day with the Ultimate Whale Watch Company. They took us out to the island Lanai on an intimate little raft boat. We saw more whales along the way, snorkeled with sea turtles in the reefs off the coast of Lanai, and had lunch with the dolphins! they took us to the back side of the island where nearly a hundred dolphins jumped, spun, and danced around the boat for us. It was like no other experience I have ever had.
Here are some videos of the whales and dolphins:
We said goodbye to the island at a the Old Lahaina Luau on our last night. What a way to say goodbye! Local food, traditional dance and music, and all the Lava Flows and Pina Coladas you can drink! It made it very hard to say goodbye. We had a wonderful time, and can't wait to one day make it back.It was very nice to get to vacation with Mom and Dad again, which I haven't done since I was a teenager. And to have Chris and my family together made it expecially nice. These are just some highlights of the trip, it's really hard to narrow down the pictures when everything was so beautiful. To see a few more pics from the trip, check out our photo slideshow.
Chris has a new company! He is shifting gears to pest control as opposed to wildlife control. Be sure to take a look - and keep him in mind if you or anyone you know may need his services!
Be sure to check out his website: www.eco-tech-pest.com
Here are our costumes - Chris went as "Trap" the trapper, and I was his eskimo girl!
A new puppy in the family!
Chris' mom got a new puppy! A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Molly. Isn't she adorable!?
Fall Colors Are Here..
Time's running short...
...to be getting in our last few bike rides of the season.
Back to school for Bri!!
This will be my second semester in the Landscape Design program. I began last semester with Intro to Horticulture and Basic Architectual Design. I loved them both.
This semester I'm taking Irrigation Construction and Plant Identification (the latter of which is harder than it sounds - I have to learn MANY details about 120 different plant species). BUT, I am super excited to be taking classes again. Wow, it makes such a difference when you LOVE what you are learning about!!

CHRIS IS 28!!
Chris' celebration was a lot of fun... and a LOT of laughs; hopefully signs of a great year to come!

Moon over Lake Erie
Grandma came for a visit!
Grandma Thelma came in for a visit from Florida. It was great to get to spend some time together. Of course, it went by much too quickly.
One of the plants in my container garden - a little Johnny Jump-up, grown from seed.
What a busy summer!
We have been on the go NON-STOP and summer has only just begun. There's been so much going on that we can't do it all, but we're having fun and getting to see a lot of people! There's still a lot to look forward to this summer, but I think we'll be ready to settle in for a long winter rest once things wind down in the fall!
THE BEES ARE DOING GREAT! Hopfully we'll be getting some tasty honey before long!
PHOTOS IN THE NEWS....
Following the really bad wind storm we had here, I sent some storm damage photos to the Detroit Free Press via internet. They published a few of them online! I was pretty excited about it.
And speaking of the storm - a HUGE THANK YOUto both sets of parents for all your help while our power was out!!
IN MOM'S GARDEN
It is so exciting to feel things warming up and to see all the beautiful, colorful plants emerging!
LATEST CATCH AND RELEASE
Chris let me handle the release of this cute little stinker! Yep, that's a skunk!
We didn't put our hands on this one! Chris found a bat while we were in Colorado!
I love getting to help! I did this catch and release all on my own!
Chris had to cut this fawn loose when it got tangled in a soccer net.
An ermine that Chris caught in an office building.
Chris couldn't believe what he got a call for - an african tortoise!
A large great horned owl that was in someone's yard in Novi.
Here's a little screech owl Chris got last summer. It, unfortunately, lost an injured eye but made a full recovery and went into an educationtional program.
