Denver was a lot of fun. We started out with the Denver Botanic Gardens. Stunning - one of the best botanic gardens I've been to! We also toured the U.S. Mint and shopped 16th Street Mall, which is a lot of fun.
We did some hiking and came across some really neat wildlife. Check out the fox we saw. It had caught both a rabbit and a bird, and was carrying them at the same time!
Red Rock Amphitheater was awesome. It was SO HUGE! It would be incredible to see a concert there. Rush was playing the day we got there - sorry Chris!
After meeting up with some friends of mine, we all went camping and hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. The drive through the mountains was gorgeous, and the park itself is beyond words. We saw incredible views, plenty of wildflowers, and lots of wildlife - moose, elk, prarie dogs... but I was most excited to see my favorite - the calypso orchid!
The whole trip was lots of fun and relaxing! Except of course the flight home. What a disaster! Our flight was delayed, then cancelled. After 4 short hours of sleep at a hotel (courtesy of the airline) we returned to the airport at 3:30am for our scheduled 6:00am flight. Guess what! Delayed AGAIN! At 7:45am we finally boarded the plane which then had mechanical problems that had to be checked out before we could finally leave at 9:00am - more than 13 hours after our original flight was supposed to leave. Ugh! But it was great to see friends that were very much missed, and to spend time in the Rockies. I know we just got home, but I can't wait to go back!
